Who can Join Abacus?
The Abacus programme aims to enhance brain power, upgrade the brain skills of children aged 5 to 13 years, and remove the fear of mathematics by making arithmetic calculations easier.
The course is two years duration, divided into eight levels of months each. During each class, the student is made to comprehend the syllabus, understand the concept, practice, become proficient and achieve a stage of being able to perform autonomously.
Every level culminates with a level assessment/test - to test the student's proficiency for the level – not just knowledge but understanding. In Indian Abacus Mental Arithmetic, a student attains mastery when he does accurate sums within a given time frame – Speed and Accuracy. Each level 12 class of 2 hours duration each week.
The 12 classes get covered in 3 months. The student will be exposed to learning and becoming proficient in step by step learning of basic arithmetic. Single-digit limited numbers addition, single-digit number addition of rows, double-digit limited numbers to double-digit rows and other complex sums. The teaching focuses on more complex addition and subtraction sums, multiplication and division.
Each level enables the Child to learn more complicated sums with conceptual variations. The programme culminates with the 8th level, which certifies the Child of having attained the stage of fully completing the Indian Abacus Mental Arithmetic programme. While eight levels mean completing the programme, every level has a definite learning and proficiency objective.
The focused objective: Visualization and Speed and Accuracy means that the student has excellent control over the learned concept, and speed is a certifying statement for the proficiency attained by the student. Doing accurate sums at high speed allows students to increase their concentration, which will enable them to learn more and function more efficiently.
The Child moves the sliders in the Physical Abacus to do arithmetic sums. After 3 levels, the Child has learned to imagine the Abacus and can do Abacus sums without using the physical Abacus.
While doing arithmetic calculations, the Child moves the sliders in the imaginary Abacus. The resultant bright colour image is converted as a number, and the quick answer comes within a few seconds.
Abacus education improves mathematics and creates interest in mathematics. However, it also helps improve overall academic skills and helps tackle day-to-day challenges.
