Self-care What it is?

Self-care is one of the hot topics today with most of the parents preoccupied with a busy schedule round the clock. Self- care is a term used by some of the researchers to identify children under the age of 13 who are regularly left alone or are cared for by the young sibling under 13.

Given below are a few points obtained as survey results:

  • The number of children who are unsupervised or in the care of a young sibling regularly is estimated to be around 3 million (For children in the age group of 6 to 12).

  • Research shows that self-care is less common among children from families with low incomes and among children falling under the age group of 6 to 9 when these two groups of children lack adult supervision, the consequences are far-reaching.

  • Children without adult supervision may not only experience isolation and loneliness but also miss out on potentially beneficial opportunities from a high- quality program or a caring adult looking after them.
